Terms of Reference

About ADEW
The Association for the Development and Enhancement of Women - ADEW is a leading feminist NGO committed to promoting women’s development and rights in the social, legal and economic spheres.

ADEW is seeking a highly qualified professional for the position of "Women's Empowerment and Participation in Egyptian Squatter Areas “Project Coordinator. The coordinator will play a fundamental role in the implementation of the project's activities in accordance with the signed agreement between ADEW and the EU.

Position Title : Project Coordinator
Reports to : Executive Director
Employment : Full Time
Contract Duration : 30 months, with a 3 months probationary period, and renewable 1-year contract depending on performance.

About the project:
The Association for Development and Enhancement of Women-ADEW, together with the European Union in Egypt-EU, have cooperated to implement a 30 months project entitled "Women's Empowerment and Participation in Egyptian Squatter Areas". The project aims to encourage and foster women's participation in public life, promote gender equality and women's rights in local development and support their active and equal participation in local decision making processes. Moreover, promoting the self confidence, leadership, and negotiation skills of women in 3 squatter areas namely Manshiet Nasser, Masr el-Qadima, and Helwan.

Objectives:
The main objectives of the position of Project Coordinator are to ensure effective planning, coordination, successful monitoring, implementation and reporting of the project's activities. The project coordinator will work under direct supervision of the executive director and in collaboration with other ADEW's programs specially the monitoring and evaluation unit.

Specific Responsibilities:
The project coordinator's responsibilities will include but not limited to:
• Coordinate all activities related to the project and ensure they are successfully implemented in accordance with the plan of action and to ensure timely and efficient disburse of activities in line with the planned budget.
• Ensure that beneficiaries are well informed and engaged in the implementation of the project and that beneficiaries are satisfied with the services they receive.
• Ensure that ADEW abides by the budget of the agreement with the EU and its procedures.
• Provide technical assistance and support to the project's staff, this may include conducting regular meetings and delivering capacity building sessions when required.
• Prepare periodic reports including interim and final report in accordance with ADEW and the EU regulations.
• Maintain organized hard and soft files of project's activities and translation of work from Arabic to English and vise versa.
• In collaboration with monitoring and evaluation unit, conduct regular project evaluation to assess needed procedural amendments including strengths and weaknesses and to determine lessons learned and applied success stories.
• In collaboration with the donor unit, the project coordinator will help develop methods to guarantee the technical and financial sustainability of the project, this may include but not limited to conducting research through the internet for potential donors, writing proposals and marketing for the project's ideas.
• To represent ADEW in meetings with government officials, to advocate and promote the project goals and objectives.

Education & Qualifications
• B.A. in a relevant field, preferably in Social Sciences, Development Studies, international relations, Gender Studies, or Political Science.
• Strong background in the development field with at least 5 year experience in project management.
• Strong skills in report writing in both Arabic and English language.
• Strong communication skills in both Arabic and English.
• Ability to work effectively with persons of diverse economic, cultural and social backgrounds.
• Ability to maintain a professional &positive disposition in the performance of job duties.
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
• Applicant must have strong initiative, independence, creativity, analytical skills and sound judgment, and service-oriented.

Work Conditions
• Applicant must be willing to work in the office 50% of the time, and in the field 50% of the time.
• We work normal office hours (9-4, five days a week) 95% of the time.
• We work until 6 or 7 p.m. at least 5 % of the time.
• Sometimes, we work during holidays, if necessary (20% of the time).
